The Bangladesh women's team continued their poor batting displays as they lost their final group match of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier against their South African counterparts by six wickets at the P Sara Oval in Colombo yesterday.

Bangladesh will have to wait till the last group matches are played to know about their Super Six fate. Bangladesh have two wins from four matches while South Africa brightened their chances with three wins from as many matches.

Having decided to bat first, Bangladesh made a poor start, losing Sharmin Sultana off the third ball of the innings before two quick wickets reduced them to eight for three in the fifth over. They failed to recover thereon.

Captain Rumana Ahmed top-scored with a 93-ball 39 before falling victim to a run-out.

South Africa fast bowler Shabnim Ismail and leg-spinner Sune Luus claimed three wickets each, while Dane van Niekerk returned two wickets in an economical spell.

South Africa chased down the total with six wickets in hand and 148 balls to spare.

Openers Lizelle Lee (34) and Laura Wolvaardt (30) shared a 50-run stand in 60 balls to guide them towards the target.
