Virtual book launch of ‘Mrittu Amader Protibeshi’
Written by Jubair Shawan and published by Kharimati Prokashani, the poetry collection Mrittu Amader Protibeshi (Death is Our Neighbour) was recently launched through a virtual programme. In addition to the author, the event was attended by artist Razib Datta, who designed the book's cover art. Among other guests were poet and publisher Monirul Monir, documentary filmmaker and translator Ashfaqul Ashekin, Bengal Stories CEO Alamin Rumi, Surjeet Sarker, and Mahmuda Shwarna. The official unveiling of the book followed a discussion session with online viewers.
"The pandemic has changed our outlook on life and our relationships with each other. Poet Jubair Shawan has highlighted these relationships in his poetry. I think these poems will give readers a different perspective on the pandemic and on dealing with this crisis", publisher and poet Monirul Monir said during the event.
The poems explore themes of instability caused by the pandemic, the tension between the individual and the society, and social humanitarian crises.
"We have seen children who had to leave their afflicted mothers behind and witnessed thousands of people become unemployed. The cries and helplessness of people have become the new 'normal' these days. These are the things I write about in this collection", poet Jubair Shawan said of his publication. He debuted with the poetry collection Hemlock Haate Boshe Achi (Jukta Prokashana) in 2018.
Mrittu Amader Protibeshi is available on Rokomari. It can also be ordered at the phone number +8801711903212.
