BTRC records 9.99 crore active internet connections
The number of active internet connections in the country soared by 738,000 last month to reach 99,984,000, very close to the 10-crore landmark, according to the statistics published by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today.
Mobile operators have the lion's share of 94.25 per cent with 9.42 crore connections. Broadband operators have 57.43 lakh connections while Wi-Max operators are still continuing with 5,000 internet connections, says the BTRC report.
Nine crore connections were recorded earlier in August 2018.
The telecom industry saw a decline in growth after BTRC imposed restrictions on top operators – Grameenphone and Robi – showing audit claims of more than Tk 13,000 crore.
The industry regained momentum recently after both the operators partially paid the amount following court orders.
