Corporate tax may rise for non-listed firms

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has proposed raising the corporate tax rate for non-listed companies to 27.5 percent for the next two fiscal years, FY27 and FY28, eliminating the existing concessionary rate of 25 percent.

At present, non-listed firms are eligible for a reduced rate of 25 percent if they meet two conditions: conducting all income transactions through banking channels and making each expenditure above Tk 5 lakh via banking channels.
Otherwise, the standard rate is 27.5 percent.

From the 2026-27 fiscal year, these conditions will no longer apply, and the flat rate of 27.5 percent will be enforced for all non-listed firms.

Meanwhile, the corporate tax rate for merchant banks has been proposed to be reduced to 27.5 per cent from the existing 37.5 per cent.

There is no change in the corporate tax rate for non-listed companies in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Corporate tax rates for other entities, including banks, mobile operators, cigarette companies, and private universities, will remain unchanged.
