Basic Bank employees stage demo

Basic Bank employees have been staging demonstration at its head office in Dhaka’s Motijheel area since the morning protesting decrease of their salaries.

More than two hundred employees of the state-run bank started the demonstration confining their managing director MD around 11:00am.

The employees have been getting their salaries as per the bank’s own wage structure. But the board of directors of the bank yesterday took a decision to adjust their salary as per the structure of other state-run banks.

The employees will now get less salary than the existing amount.

They agitating employees were staging demonstration till filing the report around 5:00pm.

The Basic Bank has been facing loss for years and the decision of salary reduction is an outcome of it, sources said.
