BGMEA building to be dismantled with controlled demolition
The BGMEA building will be demolished by using controlled demolition method (blasting with explosives), ASM Raihanul Ferdous, project director of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) said today.
“Some Chinese experts have already visited the building. And with their help, we will start demolition work of the building using the controlled demolition soon,” the project director told reporters while visiting the BGMEA building on Hatirjheel this afternoon.
The controlled demolition explosives will be used for grounding the high-rise structure as RAJUK does not want to see any casualty during demolition, he said.
RAJUK has begun its activities in line with the court order and also started removal of utility services from the building, he said.
“We set the deadline for removal of the installations of different tenants in this building 5:00pm today. They will have to remove the installations by this time,” said Ferdous.
As it is a high-rise building, it needs the use of lifts so that the line of the electricity was not snapped, said the director. “We started removal of the installations which is a part of demolition work.”
The main gate of the building was supposed to be sealed off by 5:00pm today, but the authorities could not do it till 5:20pm as many valuables were stored in front of the gate of the building, which is yet to be removed, said ASM Raihanul Ferdous.
The gate will be sealed off any time today, he added.
