High time to invest in Bangladesh: Tipu Munshi to Nordic countries
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today highlighted the investment opportunities in Bangladesh before the representatives of Nordic countries and said this is the high time to invest in the south Asian nation.
The commerce minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of a discussion on "Foreign Direct Investment for Logistics Sector" at Hotel Westin in Dhaka today.
Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Denmark, Norway, and Sweden embassies and the head of the delegation of the European Union organised the programme.
He said Bangladesh is a big market of about 17 crore people and about 45 per cent of the people's purchasing power is quite good. There are a lot of skilled people and all kinds of investment opportunities are available here, Munshi said.
"Bangladesh government is providing special facilities for investment. It is possible to produce products at a low cost and easily export them to other countries" he said.
Besides, India and China are two major neighbouring markets, he said.
The minister said Bangladesh is going to graduate from the status of the least developed country (LDC). "So, there are a lot of challenges in Bangladesh now. Bangladesh needs investment in the infrastructure sector to meet this challenge," he said.
Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, senior secretary to the Prime Minister's Office; Tahrin Anam, president of the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Md Mahbub ur Rahman, chief executive officer of HSBC, spoke on the occasion.
Ambassadors and representatives from the high commissions of different Nordic countries were present at the programme.
