Ericsson staff demo in Dhaka protesting lay off
Ericsson employees in Dhaka today demonstrated at their office premises protesting laying off of 50 employees, what the company has said are in line with company policy.
A hundred employees of the multinational company had rallied at the office grounds in Gulshan, keeping confined three of its top officials protesting the lay off.
The employees were sacked without any prior notice, Lutfor Rahman, general secretary of LM Ericsson Employees' Union of Bangladesh, told The Daily Star.
Contacted, Sonia Aplin, head of marketing and communications of South East Asia, Oceania and India zones of the company, said the decision was taken in line with company policies.
“All changes have been made and communicated to our impacted employees in strict compliance with local regulations and company policies,” she told The Daily Star in an e-mail.
The officials confined inside were: Asheon Todd, head of Ericsson’s Bangladesh chapter, Abdus Salam, acting unit head, and Khiarul Bashar, human resource manager.
