FBCCI polls end

The biennial election of the country's apex trade body Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) ended in Dhaka this evening.

The office bearers for the 2017-19 tenure of FBCCI will be elected through the polls that started 9:00am and continued till 5:15pm.

The voting at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) poll centre in Agargaon is continuing peacefully without any untoward incidents so far, our business correspondent reports quoting Ali Ashraf, chairman of FBCCI election board.

The 36 elected directors from both chamber and association groups will nominate the president and two vice-presidents for the FBCCI board for a term of two years.

Another 24 directors, 12 from the association group and 12 from chamber group, would also be put in the FBCCI board of directors for 2017-2019 as nominated directors from different chambers and associations of the country.

This year, the voters will be able to cast votes only in association group as the directors of chamber group have been already been elected unopposed.

Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, the current vice-president of the trade body, is contesting under the banner of Shommilito Gonotantrik Porishod and Kazi Iftaquer Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association, under the banner of Babosayee Oikkyo Forum, a platform of the businessmen.
