Finance minister seems to be anti-jute: Mirza Azam
State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam today came down heavily on the ministry of finance, which according to him, is barring the jute and jute goods from the status of processed agricultural products despite Prime Minister’s announcement two years ago.
“There is an ‘evil spirit’ of the World Bank in the finance ministry. Even, finance minister himself seems to be anti-jute, for which his officers are dilly-dallying in including jute as agricultural goods,” Azam said.
He was speaking at a roundtable organised jointly by the Economic Reporters’ Forum and the ministry of textile and jute at CIRDAP in Dhaka.
He said the WB did never want that Bangladesh does well in jute sector and that’s the reason it had plotted to shut down Adamjee Jute Mills.
