Mobile phone users’ association today demanded Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to arrange weekly public hearings to take note of their complaints.

The BTRC chairman was requested by members of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users’ Association to take necessary measures in this regard.

They also cited the example of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission which used to hold public hearings each Tuesday and said if BTRC were to do the same, it would greatly improve quality of service.

The association’s president Mohiuddin Ahmed also said BTRC should give 25percent of any fine money that they receive following complaints by users to whoever lodged the original complaint.

The association placed a 15-point demand and said complaints included poor network quality, slow data speed, spam messages and some cases of fraud.

BTRC chairman Md Jahurul Haque also acknowledged the complaints and said the telecom act needs to be amended.

The association has alleged that mobile operators have not taken sufficient spectrum as price is very high, so coverage and service quality is not up to the mark.
