4.5 lakh pieces of rawhide collected in first 2 days of Eid
Tanners collected 4.5 lakh pieces of rawhide in the first two days of Eid-ul-Azha.
Bangladesh Tanners Association Chairman Shaheen Ahamed shared the information at a press conference at the Imperial Amin Ahmed Centre in Dhaka's Dhanmondi today.
About 90-95 lakh pieces of rawhides are likely to be collected from across the country this year, he said.
When asked whether traders are buying rawhides at the rate set by the government, Ahamed answered affirmatively.
He added: "We are buying hides at the government-fixed rate."
The government has fixed the prices of salt-applied cow rawhide at Tk 50-Tk 55 per square foot (sft) in Dhaka and Tk 45-Tk 48 per sft outside Dhaka.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, accounts for half of the rawhides that tanners collect throughout the year in Bangladesh.
