Govt to import 60,000 tonnes of fertiliser

The cabinet committee on government purchase today approved the import of 60,000 tonnes of fertiliser at Tk 333.5 crore to ensure uninterrupted agricultural production.

Of the quantity, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will buy 30,000 tonnes of granular urea at Tk 150 crore from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under a state-to-state contract.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the purchase committee, which was chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

The BCIC will also buy 30,000 tonnes of urea at around Tk 150 crore from Saudi Arabia under the government-to-government arrangement.

The committee also approved the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh's proposal aimed at importing 12,500 tonnes of sugar from Kolkata-based Srinnova Ispat Private Ltd at Tk 70.2 crore.
