Belgian Queen Mathilde praises Bangladesh’s RMG growth
Belgian Queen Mathilde today praised the transition of Bangladesh's garment industry towards sustainable and responsible manufacturing and the progress the south Asian country has achieved to ensure workers' rights and welfare.
Mathilde visited the factory of Fakir Apparels Ltd at Narayanganj to witness the progress of Bangladesh's apparel industry in social, environmental and economic fronts and its contribution to women empowerment and their welfare.
During the visit, Faruque Hassan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), briefed the queen about BGMEA's sustainable strategic vision-2030, which aims to accelerate the growth of the industry in a sustainable manner.
Hassan requested the Belgian queen to share the positive stories of Bangladesh's apparel industry at global platforms and with the international community.
ILO Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen and Executive President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem were also present during the Queen's visit, according to a statement from the BGMEA.
