Deal signed for 181 million euro German financial, technical cooperation support
Germany is all set to extend 181 million euro or around Tk 2,265 crore in financial and technical cooperation support to Bangladesh.
Of the amount, 45.8 million euro will come as technical cooperation and the rest 135 million euro as financial cooperation.
Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed a deal with German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster in this regard at the ERD office in Dhaka, the ERD said in a statement.
The cooperation under the agreements will take place in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency (up to 50.5 million euro), sustainable urban development (up to 95.5 million euro), technical and vocational education and training (up to 5 million euro), socially- and environmentally-sound supply chains, trade and infrastructure (12 million euro), protection of biodiversity (up to 6 million euro) and for a project on combating domestic violence against women and children (up to 7 million euro).
Germany has been a crucial partner in supporting Bangladesh's efforts to strengthen its infrastructure, expand its industrial base, and enhance its competitiveness in the global market, the ERD secretary said.
Through initiatives such as technical assistance, capacity building and investment promotion, Germany has played a pivotal role in empowering Bangladesh to realise its economic potential and improve the livelihoods of its people, he said.
Siddiky also sought Germany's technical support to modernise Bangladesh's jute industry.
