Dhaka stocks recover amid reduced participation of investors

The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose 0.56 per cent today, but the turnover dropped to below 1,500 points level after more than a month as investors adopted a wait-and-see approach.

The DSEX increased 33 points to end the day at 6,026 when the turnover hit Tk 1,328 crore.

On May 23, the turnover was Tk 1,485 crore.

At the DSE, 231 stocks advanced, 108 declined and 33 remained unchanged.

Savar Refractories topped the gainers' list that rose 10 per cent followed by Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills, Bangladesh Monospool Paper Manufacturing, Global Insurance and Sonali Paper & Board Mills.

Stock of Delta Life Insurance traded mostly that worth Tk 117 crore followed by Beximco Ltd, Queen South Textiles, Malek Spinning, and Dutch-Bangla Bank.

Safko Spinning shed the most that fell 8.88 per cent followed by Queen South Textiles, Malek Spinning, Dutch-Bangla Bank, and Prime Textile.

The port city bourse also rose today. The CASPI, the general index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange, rose 79 points to 17,439.

Among 311 traded stocks, 169 advanced, 108 dropped and 34 remained unchanged.
