Fu-Wang Foods’ workers protest demanding bonus, arrears

The workers of Fu-Wang Foods Limited's factory in the Hotapara area of Gazipur have been protesting since this morning, blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, demanding three months' salary arrears and bonuses.
They began protesting on the highway at 9:00 am for an hour before moving in front of the company's factory, according to Inspector Abdul Latif of Gazipur Industrial Police.
The factory has around 450 workers across three shifts, he said.
During the protest, all types of vehicles were halted on both sides of the highway, causing long traffic jams, Latif added.
Traffic returned to normal at 10:50 am when the workers left the highway and gathered in front of the factory after members of the Joydebpur Police Station, Industrial Police, and Bangladesh Army discussed the issue with the factory authorities and assured the workers that their demands would be addressed.
Factory workers claimed that every year before Eid, the owner and factory management delay salary and bonus payments, with salaries for January, February, and March still pending.
However, Mukit Hossain, an officer from Fu-Wang Foods Limited's human resources and administration department, denied the claim, stating that only February's salary is due and will be cleared soon after withdrawing money from the bank.
