Govt allows potato import

The government has decided to allow import of potato to increase supply and contain the prices of the widely consumed vegetable in the domestic market, according to a statement by the commerce ministry today.

The ministry has sought applications from importers in order to grant import permission for potato.

The announcement comes at a time when consumers in Dhaka have to count as much as Tk 60 to buy one kilogram of the root vegetable.
