The government has imposed a travel ban on 12 garment factory owners for failing to pay workers' salaries and bonuses, Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, said today.

The ban will be lifted if they clear the payments by March 27; otherwise, it will remain in effect, he said at a press conference on the current labour situation and wage payments.

The event was held at the shipping ministry's conference room at the secretariat in the capital.

The decision to impose the travel ban was taken jointly by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Hossain added.
