Hatil's factory workers go on strike, demand attendance bonus raise

Strike ends after management assures them of meeting demands

Workers of two factories of Hatil Group situated in the Kashimpur Jirani Bazar area of Gazipur went on strike today, demanding an increase in their attendance bonus along with other benefits.

Employees of Hatil Complex Ltd and Hatil Complex Ltd Unit-02 began their strike at around 8 am, halting production.

The protesters later organised a procession outside the factory premises and tensions escalated when the procession reached the gate of the neighbouring Exaco Ltd factory, prompting its management to declare a general holiday for security reasons, according to the Industrial Police.

"My factories employ 4,000 workers, and they are generally well-behaved. However, they raised various demands today, including an increase in attendance bonus, payment for annual leave, and higher night shift allowances," said Selim H Rahman, owner of the Hatil factories.

He said he had discussions with the workers and assured them of meeting their demands.

Following the assurance, the workers agreed to call off the strike and pledged to resume work tomorrow.

The management declared a general holiday for the two factories today, and workers left the premises at around 2 pm, Rahman confirmed.
