IMF to give $645 million as fourth tranche of loan to Bangladesh

IMF agreed to Bangladesh’s request to extend the loan amount, now it stands at $5.3 billion

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will extend $645 million to Bangladesh as the fourth tranche under its existing loan programme.

In January 2023, the IMF approved the $4.7 billion loan for Bangladesh and the country has so far received $2.3 billion in three tranches.

According to an IMF statement, the government sought an augmentation of $750 million in IMF financial support under the extended credit facility and extended fund facility arrangements in order to handle macroeconomic challenges.

The multilateral donor agency agreed to extend the support to $700 million, taking the total IMF loan amount to $5.3 billion.

After that, the IMF took step to release the fourth tranche of the loan to Bangladesh, according to a statement of the IMF.
