Matiur Rahman removed from NBR post after controversy
Matiur Rahman, president of the National Board of Revenue's (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal, has been transferred to the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Finance Ministry following a recent controversy over his wealth.
The government issued a circular today directing his immediate transfer.

The controversy regarding Matiur Rahman's wealth surfaced after his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat posted a photo of a sacrificial goat on social media and claimed to have bought for Tk 12 lakh.
This raised questions about the income of this official at this grade (a grade-1) with a basic monthly salary of Tk 78,000.
Later, social media saw photos of Ifat with cars of various brands, and the wealth including flats and resorts of Matiur in various places, namely Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narsingdhi surfaced.
On Wednesday, he told The Daily Star that the young man Ifat was not his son.
And he was the victim of conspiracy. He said his wife Laila Kaniz Lucky is chairman of Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district and a group is conspiring ahead of the election which was postponed by the Election Commission earlier after a candidate died in the run-up to the polls.
Several officials in the NBR said Matiur had invested in the stock market.
Matiur said he has two children—one daughter and one son. His daughter lives in Canada while his son has graduated in economics from a University in the USA.
Later, reports came in the mainstream media attributing lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari from Feni-2 constituency and local leaders that the young Ifat is the son of Shammi Akkhter Shivli or Shibu is the cousin of Hazari.
Shibu is second wife of Matiur.
After the latest transfer order, The Daily Star tried to contact him by phone. He did not respond.
