Number of households with internet rises by 9 times in a decade
The number of Bangladeshi households with internet connection has increased by nine times in a decade, finds a survey conducted by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
In 2013, only 4.8 per cent of the households had internet connections, which increased to 43.6 per cent in 2023, according to the survey.
At present, 63 per cent of the households in urban areas have internet connection while the rate comes down to 37 per cent in rural areas.
The BBS published the report titled "Survey on access and use of ICT at the household and individual level" on its website on July 20.
For the survey, the BBS took into account different internet connection tools namely wired broadband connection (wired connection/WiFi connection) and mobile network connection (wireless).
In between the 10 years, the proportion of individuals using internet increased to 44.5 per cent in 2023 from 6.7 per cent in 2013.
