Phone makers must preinstall Bijoy app, but no obligation for users: Jabbar
Preinstallation of Bijoy app on android phones is still mandatory for the importers and manufacturers of the devices, but it is not obligatory for the users to use the Bangla writing software, Telecom Minister Mustafa Jabbar said today.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has not changed its stance over the mandatory installation of Bijoy app.
"The users can uninstall anything in a second from their phones. So, there is no need to use the word 'mandatory' here," the minister said.
He made the comment after a press conference on the Digital Bangladesh Mela 2023 on the venue of the show at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka's Agargaon.
The three-day expo will begin tomorrow.
According to the directive of the BTRC, all imported and locally manufactured android smart handsets must have the Bijoy app pre-installed before receiving marketing permission.
Otherwise, the commission will not certify them, according to the directive.
The BTRC order was issued on January 13 to the relevant stakeholders, including all mobile manufacturers and the president of the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association.
