Rules eased for sending money abroad for language courses

Students can now pay language course fees directly through banks

Bangladesh Bank has made it easier for students to send money abroad for language courses.

In a circular issued today, the central bank said students no longer need its approval to send foreign exchange for such courses, even if the course is not a requirement for a bachelor's degree.

Previously, banks could only release money for courses like undergraduate, postgraduate, and language courses linked to degree programmes.

Now, students can directly pay fees for any recognised language course through their banks.

Industry insiders said this move will help more students find jobs abroad, especially in Japan, where knowledge of the local language is important.

They added that the process can happen without the help of recruiting agencies and could increase overseas employment opportunities.
