Starlink given go-ahead to operate in Bangladesh: Bida executive chairman

Starlink, a US-based satellite internet service provider, has received approval from the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) to begin operations in the country, said Ashik Chowdhury, executive chairman of Bida.
He shared the information at a press briefing to announce the schedule of the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka today.
The approval was granted to Starlink on March 29, Chowdhury, who also serves as the executive chairman of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza), told reporters at the event.
The entry of Starlink, a subsidiary of Elon Musk's SpaceX, is expected to significantly boost internet connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved areas across Bangladesh, experts said.

With its low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology, Starlink aims to offer high-speed internet in regions where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited or non-existent.
The move also signals growing interest from global tech giants in Bangladesh's digital infrastructure sector, as the country continues to position itself as an emerging destination for investment and innovation.
Further details regarding Starlink's rollout timeline and service plans in Bangladesh are expected to be disclosed during the upcoming four-day investment summit scheduled to begin in Dhaka tomorrow.
