Which countries are biggest fans of Bangladeshi mangoes?
Bangladeshi mangoes with its flavour and taste are winning hearts in many foreign lands.
The local summer fruit has high demand among the nationals of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Philippines living abroad.
The fan base of the juicy fruit produced in Bangladesh is also growing in the Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE.
The mangoes also have huge clientele in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, Sweden and Canada.
The growing global demand fuelled Bangladesh's mango export to rise by four times since 2018.
In the last 11 months to May, local businesses air-shipped 980 tonnes of mango, up 24 per cent year-on-year and the highest in the last five years.
However, the local growers said Bangladeshi mangoes—which remain green despite being fully ripen—are lagging behind as globally the yellow mango varieties have the highest demand.
The good news is local experts are now working to produce the yellow mango varieties.
There is another good news.
Bangladesh is now the globe's one of the top mango producers, growing 25 lakh tonnes in 2021.
