Political unrest during January to mid March of the current year has caused for a gross domestic product (GDP) loss of 0.55 percent or Tk 4,900 crore, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) said today.

The think-tank also said this is a conservative estimate as it has analysed only 11 major sectors, which have missed value addition worth Tk 4,900 crore due to political instability.

“If it was possible to capture all sources of losses, this would obviously raise the estimate,” CPD said in its budget analysis for the upcoming fiscal year at BRAC Centre Inn.

Informal sector was also out of this estimate, it said.

Executive Director Prof Mustafizur Rahman and distinguished fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya spoke among others at the programme.
