TIB lauds safety measures for RMG workers
Transparency International Bangladesh has lauded the improvement of the safety standard at ready-made garment industries and termed the development “revolutionary”.
Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director for the anti-graft watchdog, came up with the comment today, days ahead of the third anniversary of Rana Plaza disaster.

“Of the 102 initiatives taken for the RMG factories, 77 were fully implemented,” he said. The rest should be implemented as soon as possible, he told a press conference at TIB office in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.
Rana Plaza collapse is the country's deadliest industrial disaster that took place on April 24, 2013. At least 1,136 people – mostly garment workers – lost their lives in the disaster and twice as many were injured.

The man-made disaster – the biggest industrial disaster of the century – triggered a huge outcry home and abroad over workers’ safety in Bangladesh’s RMG sector.
