Dr Akther Hossain receives Gold Medal from Bangladesh Academy of Sciences

Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Akther Hossain was awarded the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences-National Professor Dr. M. Innas Ali Memorial Gold Medal-2024 for his significant contributions to research and education in physical sciences. 

Dr. Hossain, a distinguished professor in the Department of Physics at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), obtained his PhD degree from Imperial College, London in 1998. 

His research focuses on superconductors, nanostructured ferrites, ferroelectrics, multiferroics, diluted magnetic semiconductors, optoelectronic materials, and nanocrystalline alloys. He has supervised the theses of 13 PhD, 47 MPhil, and 26 MSc students. He has published 138 full-length articles in various prestigious international journals.

Prof. Hossain has a significant publication record in scientific journals, indicating his knowledge as an emerging researcher in his field of study. So far, he has achieved impressive metrics, including a total impact factor score of 421, 4248 citations, an H-index of 36, and an I-10 index of 94. His visionary leadership and mentorship in scientific inquiry have not only enriched the science community but also inspired a new generation of researchers to seek knowledge and discovery. 

Prof. Hossain shares his knowledge and experience through speeches at various conferences, seminars, and workshops. He has been invited several times as a visiting professor at Osaka University in Japan. He has also served as the Head of the Department of Physics at BUET (2009-2011) and as the provost of a residential hall at BUET (2014-2018). Currently, he is serving as the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies at BUET. He is an esteemed fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences
