Now in its 11th year, the Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate the achievements of UK alumni driving positive change in their professions, societies, and countries. Recognising the transformative power of UK education, these awards showcase inspiring success stories at both national and global levels.

The British Council recently hosted the Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 in Bangladesh, honouring UK-educated Bangladeshi professionals who have made significant contributions in their fields. This prestigious award strengthens UK-Bangladesh ties while fostering lifelong connections. Through these awards, the British Council continues to highlight the global impact of UK alumni.

Science and Sustainability Award

Winner: Dr. M Tasdik Hasan (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, King's College London) – A leading global mental health researcher in Bangladesh, Dr. Hasan integrates digital innovations with advocacy to support marginalised communities. Recognised by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, he has co-developed tools empowering Bangladesh's deaf communities and has over 100 publications driving inclusive well-being.

"This award is a celebration of the transformative power of education, the resilience of dreams, and the impact of science in shaping a better world."

Finalists: MD Adil Chawdhury (Durham University) – Head of Planning at Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, Mohammad Ismat Kadir (University of Southampton) – A Professor at Khulna University and Senior IEEE Member, Mohammad Jahirul Hoque (SOAS, University of London & Leeds Beckett University) – Former Vice-Chancellor of Metropolitan University.

Culture and Creativity Award

Winner: Dr. Shahman Moishan (University of Birmingham) – Associate Professor at the University of Dhaka, recognised for his work in political Shakespeare, intercultural performance, and the evolution of modern theatrical forms in Bangladesh.

"Recognition on this prestigious platform is a milestone of inspiration, excellence, and growth, reinforcing a commitment to progress."

Finalists: Mohammad Rakibul Hasan (Falmouth University, University of Oxford) – Award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and visual artist

Social Action Award

Winner: Shamsin Ahmed (University of Edinburgh) – Founder of Identity Inclusion, leading initiatives for youth leadership, institutional change, and mental health advocacy, training over 2,000 advocates in community-based mental health services.

"Working with people with psychosocial and physical disabilities is challenging yet rewarding. Gaining recognition for this work means a lot, and being part of the UK alumni network will further support my efforts."

Finalists: Dr. Melita Mehjabeen (University of Manchester) – Professor at IBA, Dhaka University, Mustakim Ahmed Sunny (Queen's University Belfast) – Software engineer and peace advocate 

Business and Innovation Award

Winner: Syed M Istiak (University of Stirling) – Commonwealth Scholar and entrepreneur 

"UK alumni are shaping innovation and national development, bridging academia and business. This award highlights their impact on careers and the economy."

Finalists: Ahmed Ibnul Hassan (University of London) – Lecturer of Law and Legal Counsel, Kamal Uddin Gazi Jishan (Oxford Brookes University) – Co-founder of Qormotho
