Dr Tahmina Foyez, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacy, United International University (UIU), recently represented Bangladesh on the global stage as one of only 15 scientists worldwide selected for the prestigious 2024 OWSD Early Career Fellowship.

The OWSD – Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World – orientation workshop was held from April 1 to 4 in Trieste, Italy, at the campus of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). Over four days, fellows from 13 developing countries engaged in sessions focused on leadership, project management, science communication, commercialisation of research, and science diplomacy. They also received training on intellectual property rights and grant utilisation.

As part of the workshop, fellows had the opportunity to explore some of Trieste's leading research institutions. These include AREA Science Park, Laboratory of Data Engineering (LADE), International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), and the University of Trieste. They also received guidance on crafting impactful elevator pitches and interacted with students at the United World College Adriatic.

With her participation, Dr Foyez has not only elevated her own academic journey but also showcased UIU's growing reputation in global scientific research. Her achievement stands as a milestone for UIU and a powerful example for aspiring women scientists across the country. Her recognition also shines a spotlight on Bangladesh's rising contribution to global science and innovation, reinforcing the country's potential to nurture world-class researchers.
