A major water supply line of Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) was damaged today in the port city, leaving residents in over 20 areas facing water shortages.

The 1100 mm diameter main supply line was cracked during the development work of a project by the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) at the Pahartali Sagarika intersection, disrupting water supply to the southern part of the city.

This is the second such incident in recent weeks. Earlier, on February 18, a similar incident occurred when the main WASA supply line was damaged during the Chattogram Development Authority's canal excavation project in the city's Ananya Residential Area.

In that instance, the damage caused a severe water crisis for nearly a week, affecting half of the city's residents.

Mahbubul Alam, Superintendent Engineer of Chattogram WASA, said, "We started digging the area to repair the damaged pipeline. But we are yet to go into the area of the cracks due to technical glitches."

He said they need a few days to repair the cracks.

According to a public notice issued by the state water supply agency after the incident, the following areas of the port city are expected to face water supply disruption due to the damage: Halishahar Elevated Tank, Agrabad, CDA Residential Area, West Madarbari, Halishahar, Borpul, Chotopul, Beparipara, Gosaildanga, Panwalapara, Postarapara, Dhaniwalapara, Kadamtali, Hajipara, Shantibagh, Muhuripara, Pahartali, Eidgah, and Dewanhat.
