The Waves of History
At the flick of the right switch, the walls in the home of 50-year-old Mofazzal Hossain come abuzz with the static of history. With over 1,000 radios -- from the Grundig, Hitachi, Citizen, Zenith, Murphy and National to the Panasonic, Philips, Philco -- Hossain’s collection draws many an envious glance. But his passion for the broadcasting equipment is not just a hobby; rather, the man is on the path to preserving history. He believes that the radio played a vital role in the Liberation War and preserving the devices means retaining an important fragment of history, when radios were the only means of getting information for many. The oldest radio in his possession is from 1937. He also owns a vacuum tube radio. His collection indeed deserves a place in any museum of our country’s history.
