16 ‘fake detectives’ held in Dhaka
Law enforcers today claimed to have detained 16 fake members of Detective Branch of police in different parts of Dhaka in two separate drives.
A team of DB (east) conducted a drive at Banasree in Rampura area early today and detained nine robbers when they were preparing to carry out a robbery disguising themselves as DB officials, according to a release floated to the media.
The detectives recovered one foreign pistol, one magazine, two bullets, two machetes, four knives, one walkie-talkie set, three DB jackets, two handcuffs, two canes, a bag and two DB stickers and also seized two cars and a microbus from their possession, the release read.
Earlier around 6:25pm last evening, DB (north) officials, in another drive, detained seven fake detectives from a road beside the under-construction Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Convention Centre at the capital’s Ramna area.
During the drive, the detectives also seized a microbus, two toy pistols, one walkie-talkie set, a pair of handcuffs, 17 unused prepaid mobile SIMs, seven mobile phone sets, an army jacket, a cane, a steel rod, a pair of boots, three pendrives, a card reader, a steel nameplate, and a blank identity card cover with police logo, the release added.
