3 fake community cops held in Dhaka

Chawkbazar police yesterday arrested three fake community policemen in the capital’s Islambagh and Siddhirganj areas.

The arrestees were identified as Md Jahangir Alam, MA Kuddus Sheikh and Sohel Rana, Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Lalbagh division police, told The Daily Star today.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Chawkbazar police nabbed MA Kuddus Sheikh and Sohel Rana from Islambagh, while Md Jahangir Alam was picked up at Siddhirganj, he added.

In primary interrogation, the detainees confessed that they took huge amount of money from around 15,000 people across the country making fake promises of giving jobs in police department, the police official said.

“ID cards, stamp papers, admission forms and many other related documents of community police were recovered from their possessions,” said M Foyzur Rahman, senior assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Lalbagh zone).
