3 star journos among 26 get Walton-DRU award
Three journalists of The Daily Star yesterday were honoured with Walton-DRU Best Reporting Award-2016 yesterday for their outstanding reporting.
Of the three, Shakhawat Liton was awarded under the category of politics and judiciary, Porimol Palma under the diplomacy and manpower category and Helemul Alam under the category of urban challenges and prospects.
A total of 26 journalists from different media organisations received the award at a ceremony held in the capital's Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
HT Imam, political adviser to the prime minister, handed over the awards to the journalists, each of whom was given a certificate, a crest and a cheque of Tk 50,000.
The other award recipients (print media category) are: Sharifuzzaman Pintu of Prothom Alo, Shipon Habib of Jugantor, Abu Saleh Rony of Samakal, Shariful Alam Shumon and Azizul Parvez of Kaler Kantha, Rumana Akhi and Harun-ar-Rashid of Amader Shomoy, Bikash Narayan Dutta and Wazed Hira of Janakantha, Nesaruddin Ahmed of Alokito Bangladesh, Mehedi Hasan of Naya Diganta, and SM Mizan of Bhorer Kagoj.
Mazharul Islam, Badarudduza Babu and Faria Afsana of Machranga TV, MM Islam Mahidul and Shafiq Shaheen of NTV, Apurba Alauddin and GM Faysal of Jamuna TV, and Rashed Nizam of Channel 24 were awarded under the television reporting category.
Shahed Shafiq of Jagonews24.com and Abu Hanif Rana of Poriborton.com were awarded under the online category while Ahrar Hossain of BBC Bangla Service bagged award under the investigative radio reporting category.
DRU President Jamal Uddin presided over the programme conducted by its General Secretary Razu Ahmed.
Among others, the jury board's Chairman Shahjahan Sardar, Walton Executive Director (policy and HRM) HM Zahid Hasan and Operative Director (creative and publication) Uday Hakim addressed the programme.
Twenty six out of 275 reports submitted for the competition, were selected for the award.
