Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members detained over 100 people during an anti-narcotics drive at Geneva camp in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area today.

Several teams of Rab conducted a raid at the camp around 11:00am and detained over 100 suspecting their involvement in drug peddling, Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, legal and media wing director of the Rab, told reporters after the drive.

“We will interrogate the detainees. After scrutinising, we will take legal action against those who are the real drug traders,” he said.

During the drive, they also recovered huge amount of drugs from the camp, said the top Rab official.

“Traders will have to stop drug trading. Rab will continue the drive until the drug trading is fully eradicated from the country. None will be spared,” Mufti Mahmud Khan added.

Geneva Camp is a densely-populated settlement of more than 25,000 Urdu-speaking Biharis.

Also known as Bihari Camp, the place is found to be a hotspot for yaba trade at the heart of Mohammadpur.

On May 4, Rab launched its own anti-narcotics operations while the police headquarters on May 16 instructed all police units across the country to conduct a special 10-day drive from May 18.
