ASI gets 2yrs in jail for asking bribe
A Dhaka court today sentenced a sacked assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Special Branch to two years imprisonment in a case filed over demanding Tk 2000 as bribe to a wife of a Justice for verifying documents of passports.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka handed down the sentence in presence of the convict sacked ASI Sadekul Islam. The court also cancelled Sadekul’s bail and sent him to jail.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that Sadekul on August 23 of 2016 went to the residence of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman at Dhanmondi for verifying his two daughters’ documents of passports. At one stage, Sadekul demanded Tk 2000 as bribe from the wife of the Justice.
Later on August 31 of 2016, District Judge (in charge) Hosne Ara filed a case against Sadekul Islam with Shahbagh Police Station in this regard.
On May 4 of 2017, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rahila Khatun pressed charge against Sadekul.
