Banani college girl rape accused Ivan held

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today arrested Bahauddin Ivan, the lone accused in a case filed for raping a college girl in Banani early Tuesday, from Narayanganj city this afternoon.

Ivan, 28, was arrested at his aunt’s house in Mazdairbazar area by a team of Rab-11 around 4:30pm, Mufti Mahmud Khan, Rab's legal and media wing director, told The Daily Star.

In the case filed with Banani Police Station last night, the 21-year-old girl said Ivan allegedly called her on Tuesday to his Banani house on Road-2 and raped her.

Victim’s forensic tests done

Meanwhile, the medical test of the victim was conducted at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital this afternoon.

A five-member medical team led by Sohel Mahmud, the head of DMCH’s Forensic department, conducted test.

The reports of the test is expected to be available within two weeks, Sohel told The Daily Star.

“As the samples have been collected within 48 hours into the incident, the reports will confirm whether the girl was raped,” he said.

Earlier on March 28, two university students were allegedly raped after they attended a birthday party at a Banani hotel. Police pressed charges against five accused in the case.
