A woman, who was stuck in between a wall and high commode in a toilet of her Uttara residence last night was rescued by fire service members after her husband sought help from emergency helpline-999.

The victim, Alam Ara Akther, 55, slipped and fell resulting in her getting stuck in the narrow space between the wall and the high commode around 11:00pm yesterday, her husband Abul Hosen told The Daily Star.

Alam Ara Akther has been ill for the last two years, her husband said.

Getting no other way, her husband Abul Hosen dial 999 seeking help from the emergency helpline service, Senior Station officer of Uttara fire station Shafiqul Islam told The Daily Star.

After his phone call, an eight-member team of the fire service station rushed to the house at Uttara-11 and rescued the woman around 12:20am today, said Shafiqul Islam.

She was administered primary treatment according to the Emergency Rescue System of the fire service, the official said.

The accident occurred because of the faulty set-up of the bathroom, Shafiqul Islam said.

Quoting Abul Hosen, the fire service officials said he got a quick response after calling 999 and also wanted to reward the fire-service officials.

However, the officials denied the reward, saying “It is their duty.”
