Malaysian man held at airport with 7kg gold
A Chinese origin Malaysian national was held with seven gold bars, weighing around 7kg, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday night.
Chan Gee Keong, 47, arrived at the airport in a Malindo Air flight from Malaysia around 10:00pm, Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of customs preventive team, told this newspaper.
The officials intercepted him as they found his movement suspicious at the green channel of the airport. During interrogation, Chan said he did not carry any taxable goods.
The officials then frisked his body and found the gold bars hidden inside his specially made undervest. The gold is worth around Tk 3.5 crore, said Othello.
