Missing’ Kalyan Party leader found, arrested
Bangladesh Kalyan Party Secretary General MM Aminur Rahman has been arrested nearly four months after he reportedly went missing from Nayapaltan area of Dhaka.
A team of Detective Branch of police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Aminur from Gulshan’s Shahjadpur area around 11:40pm last night, Sheikh Nazmul Alam, additional deputy inspector general of DB, told The Daily Star today.
After the investigation officer produced him before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court today, the court placed him on a four-day remand in a case filed against him in a case filed in connection with a bomb attack in Dhaka’s Gulshan area in 2015.
“We have been working for a while to trace Aminur Rahman. We suddenly found his mobile switched on last night and detained him from Shahjadpur of Gulshan.” Nazmul Alam said.
Later, he was shown arrested in the case filed with Gulshan Police Station on February 16, 2015 in connection with a bomb attack on a procession, led by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, which left eight people injured, Nazmul Alam added.
The procession was marching towards BNP Chief Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office on the same day (February 16, 2015) to lay siege to it.
DB inspector Jihad Hossain, also investigation officer of the case, told The Daily Star that they have found evidence and witnesses that Aminur was involved in the attack on minister Shahjahan’s procession.
However, Aminur was not included in the first information report (FIR) in the bomb attack.
During a primary interrogation, Aminur told law enforcers that he was kept in a dark room but could not mention the name of the place, said Shahjahan Saju, additional deputy commissioner of DMP.
Soon after the arrest, the additional deputy inspector general, Nazmul Alam, said Aminur might have gone into hiding to avoid arrest in the case.
Aminur went traceless after coming out of the party-office in Nayapaltan on August 27.
Aminur's family members lodged a general diary with Paltan Police Station.
Bangladesh Kalyan Party is a component of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
