‘Gunfight’ in Mohammadpur, 2 ‘robbers’ shot
Two alleged robbers sustained bullet injuries in what Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) described as a gunfight in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka early today.
Six others were also said to have been arrested during the “gunfight” when Rab intercepted a robbery attempt in Ekata Housing area around 2:50am, Lt Col Iftekharul Mabud, commanding officer of Rab-2 said.
Bullet-ridden Mohammad Helal, 32, the ringleader, and Siraj Sikdar, 55, were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds in their thighs.
Challenged by Rab men, the “robbers” fired at the law enforcement agency members, forcing them to retaliate with gun shots, leaving two of them injured.
Rab claimed Helal and Siraj are accused in several cases filed with Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj and Keraniganj Police Station.
The four other arrestees are--Rasheduzzaman alias Sumon, 22, Mokhles alias Nure Alam, 18, Nur Mohammad Ali, 20, Abdul Wahab alias Sumon, 19.
Rab seized a pistol, two bullets and some instruments used for robbery from their possession. The official said the gang used to rob people in Dhaka and nearby areas.
