Poet Al Mahmud at ICU
Veteran Bangladeshi poet Al Mahmud has been admitted to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area after he fell sick last night.
Al Mahmud has been kept at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Bangla Daily Prothom Alo reports quoting poet Azam, a friend of the poet.
He has been suffering from multiple diseases including pneumonia and the old-age complications, the report added.
Al Mahmud won Bangla Academy Award in 1968 for his two great works -- Lok Lokantor and Kaler Kalosh.
Mahmud's other famous works include Mayabi Porda Dule Otho, Arobbo Rojonir Rajhash, Bakhtiyarer Ghora, Pankourir Rakto, Nodir Bhitorer Nodi, and Kobi-r Amtobishwash.
Pastoral life, rivers, villages, shoals, love and the human biophysical urges are dominant themes in his poetry.
Al Mahmud's poetic genius has been evaluated, recognised and honoured with many awards like Ekushey Padak, Philips Literary Award, Alakta Literary Award, Sufi Motaher Hossain Literary Gold Medal and many more.
