Barisal suicide victim finally passes SSC exam after re-scrutiny

Sarbajit Ghosh Ridoy finally got A+ in Hindu Religious and Moral Education subject and achieved 4.67 in this year's SSC examination after the Barisal board reassessed his papers and declared the corrected result on Saturday.

But it was too late as the dismayed student of Udayon School in the city upon hearing that he failed to pass the subject committed suicide by jumping from a six-storied under-construction building in Parera Road.

Terming his death not a suicide, rather he was compelled due to the negligence of the authorities concerned; aggrieved students formed a human chain yesterday in front of Aswani Kumar Hall of Barisal City, demanding strict punishment.

Out of 10,492 students, 1,193 failed Hindu Religious and Moral Education subject under Barisal board this year.

After re-scrutiny, 1,141 more passed, of them, 94 got GPA-5.

All the answer sheets of the subject were reexamined and found that the head examiner replaced Kha set answer sheets with Ga set ones, said Ziaul Haque, the board chairman.

Head examiner Juran Chandra Chakraborty said he had been doing the job for 16 years and did not how it happened.

Actions will be taken against the head examiner and others for their negligence, said the chairman.
