Barrister Mainul sent to jail
A Dhaka court has sent Barrister Mainul Hosein to jail after rejecting his bail petition in connection with a defamation case filed by a female journalist last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order when barrister Mainul surrendered before his court and sought bail in the case today.
Masuda Bhatti, acting editor of Dainik Amader Notun Somoy, filed the case against Mainul as he hurled abusive words at her during a television talk show in October last year.
Mainul, also former adviser to a caretaker government, surrendered before the court today as per an order passed by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on August 18.
Earlier on October 16 last year, Mainul hurled abusive words at Masuda Bhatti and termed her “characterless” at the talk show -- Ekattor Journal -- hosted by Mithila Farzana on Ekattor TV.
