'BCL men' beat up student at DU
A student was beaten allegedly by several Bangladesh Chhatra League activists for “unknown reasons” at Dhaka University early yesterday.
Jubayer Ahmed, a first-year sociology student, was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Students residing in Bijoy Ekattor Hall, who said to have witnessed the incident, said eight to ten BCL activists of Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit were talking to Jubayer on the Memory Eternal premises around midnight.
Later, they started altercating and at one stage the men attacked Jubayer with iron rods and sticks, the witnesses said.
Three of the attackers were Sadik, Sifat and Parvez, they added. The BCL men also snatched the victim's phone. On information, Jubayer's classmates rushed him to the DMCH.
Fakir Rasel Ahmed, president of the hall's BCL unit, said he does not know any of the attackers.
“We are looking into the matter,” DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani told The Daily Star.
