3 bus companies pledge to remove ads as women’s security compromised

Three bus companies today promised the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) that they will remove advertisements from their windows as it compromises security, especially of female passengers.

The decision comes following an investigation launched by the road transport authorities after women passengers complained saying "advertisement pasted on buses is affecting their safety." 

Owners of Green Dhaka, Shatabdi Paribahan, and Dhaka Chaka went to the BRTA office today along with the buses displaying ads and held a discussion with the BRTA authorities, according to a press release signed by Director (enforcement) of BRTA AKM Masudur Rahman. 

The owners of all three bus services have promised to remove the advertisements within the next seven days.

After seven days, BRTA's mobile court will monitor the roads to make sure that the pledge is implemented.

The pasting of advertisements is also in breach of the new Road Transport Act-2018, which prohibits pasting and displaying of illegal advertisements.

BRTA fined two buses of Green Dhaka and Dhaka Chaka Tk 10,000 each in this regard as well, according to the press release.
