Police Bureau of Investigation last night arrested the bus driver responsible for the incident in which a female government official lost her left leg in the city’s Banglamotor area on August 27.

PBI (Dhaka Metro north) arrested bus driver Morshed from Kazipara in Dhaka around 10:30pm yesterday, SP (Dhaka Metro) of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Bashir Ahmed told The Daily Star.

Morshed left Dhaka soon after the incident and returned last night, the official said.

Krishna Roy Chowdhury, 55, assistant manager (accounts) at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), lost her left leg after a recklessly-driven bus ran her over on a pavement in the city’s Banglamotor area on August 27.

The victim was rushed to the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital from where she was shifted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor).

Krishna, who had joined the BIWTC in 1990, lives with her family in the city’s Maniknagar.
